What changed this week.
Reporting week: 10–16 October 2026. Sources checked: 16 October 2026.
The week's signal
Industrial power demand and market-entry finance feature in this week's selected developments. The distinction matters: a grant can help establish a local operating platform, while project debt still depends on a credible buyer and enforceable payment security.
Solarise Africa receives €1 million for Uganda and Zambia expansion
Solarise Africa announced an EEP Africa grant on 13 October. With €1 million of company co-financing, the €2 million programme targets 3 MW over 24 months. It covers decentralised energy for businesses and social institutions, with storage and heat pumps where appropriate.
AEI assessment: The funding supports entry costs and deployment. It does not establish that the target capacity has been commissioned or that follow-on finance is committed. Watch for signed customer contracts, installations and operating results.

Payment security advances Zimbabwe's 115 MW Selous solar project
Green Building Africa reported on 15 October that Afrochine and African Transmission Corporation signed a Direct Agreement for the Centrachine project. The reported financing package is US$155.5 million: US$87.5 million led by TDB, a US$65 million Sinohydro Leasing bridge facility and US$3 million from FBC Bank.
The report identifies a Zhejiang Dinson parent guarantee covering Afrochine's electricity payments, alongside a 25-year US-dollar PPA and dedicated transmission connection.
AEI assessment: Payment support is material to the financing structure. The article does not establish that every facility has been drawn; the bridge and long-term facilities should not be assumed to represent permanently additive debt. Verify conditions precedent, refinancing arrangements and construction mobilisation. July 2027 is an accelerated commissioning target requested by the minister, rather than confirmed delivery.

What to watch next
- Uganda and Zambia: Solarise's first customer contracts and deployment milestones under the programme.
- Zimbabwe: confirmation of drawdown, EPC mobilisation and the role of each financing facility.
These are selected developments. Amounts retain their disclosed currencies; no currency conversion or claim of comprehensive market coverage is implied.
